Blake Named Outstanding Young College Teacher of the Year

Shawna Blake, assistant professor of communication and Communication Program coordinator at Tulsa Community College, was selected as the Outstanding Young College Teacher of the Year by the Oklahoma Speech, Theatre, and Communication Association (OSTCA).

The award was created in 1987 and recognizes teachers in the early stages of their careers with fewer than 10 years of experience.

The Oklahoma Speech, Theatre, and Communication Association held its annual convention at the Wes Watkins Center for International Trade Development on the Oklahoma State University – Stillwater campus last semester.

“This award means a lot to me. It’s proof that I’m young! But really, as someone who has had amazing professors in the past who changed the course of my life. To be able to do this for a living now and earn an award recognizing that I’m doing it right is great,” said Blake.

“This award has inspired me to renew my passion for teaching and to work hard to make sure I’m doing the best I can for my students with each year I gain experience.”

The Oklahoma Speech, Theatre, and Communication Association (OSTCA) is an association of college and university faculty promoting speech, theatre, and communication education in the state of Oklahoma and the surrounding region. We have many members from outside the state who join us for our state convention because of our focus on creating a welcoming atmosphere that encourages collegiality, creativity, and collaboration. The organization was founded in 1929. For more information, visit https://www.ostca.org/
