Josey Records: The Perfect Stop for All Your Music Needs!

Everyone knows of the famous Route 66, the stretch of highway from Chicago to Santa Monica.

But perhaps one of the most popular tourist destinations along that route is Tulsa, Okla., recognized as the “Capital of Route 66.” From statues to tourist attractions, to small businesses, Tulsa has it all. As we near the route’s centennial celebration, take a trip with us down to Meadow Gold District, Tulsa’s “newest and most exciting mixed-use community district along Route 66.” (See https://www.meadowgolddistrict.com/.)

Specifically, would like to highlight Josey Records, a franchise with locations in Tulsa and Dallas, and a perfect one-stop shop for physical media from vinyl records and CDs to DVDs and VHS tapes.

John Gabriel, manager of Josey Records, shared his thoughts and insights on the impact of Route 66 connecting to the store.

“We specifically want people who are traveling Route 66 to come in and kind of feel like they get the Tulsa experience,” Gabriel remarked. “When you come in the main door, the local music is right there in front of you.”

The store itself is a blend of modern taste and classic nostalgia! Rows of collective album covers stretch across the wall, while customers flip through bins searching for everything from classic rock to new releases. The atmosphere is laid-back but full of personality, a true reflection of Tulsa’s thriving local art and music scene.

Josey Records has become a stop not just for locals but for travelers following the Mother Road who want to experience a piece of Tulsa’s creative side. Whether it is longtime collectors hunting for hidden gems or younger fans discovering vinyl for the first time, everyone seems to leave with something uniquely theirs.

“Streaming is great…Anything we want to hear, we can put it on. But there’s really nothing like having physical media, and you know what you’ve got,” Gabriel said. “…No one wants to flip through your Spotify playlist. They want to look at your wall of records!”
